Foreign Entrepreneurs Face Israeli Immigration Hurdles

Today the Wall Street Journal reports that business owners from around the world are looking to tap into the strong Israel labor market, but are having trouble due to visa complications.

Israel’s immigration rules were designed to bring Jewish residents into the country. Jewish immigrants are automatically granted citizenship after a short stay, and a one year work visa for Jewish visitors is a fairly simple process. However, getting a visa if you can’t prove your Jewish roots is very challenging, even for emerging technology entrepreneurs and leaders.

Those sorts of headaches are also starting to be a problem for multinational technology companies expanding offices here, eager to bring in foreign workers. They are also crimping hiring plans for smaller, Israeli tech firms that complain they need more diverse talent than the domestic labor market can offer.
